Options for MO Edcampers

Missouri has three edcamps taking place this fall and winter! Edcamp is free, participant-driven professional development for teachers. Upcoming locations and dates:

Springfield: September 22, 2012
Kansas City: November 10, 2012
St. Louis: February 9, 2013 (the weekend before the Midwest Education Technology Conference)

Edcamps bring together those interested in learning & sharing more about best practices in education in an unconference format. This format allows the knowledge and interests of those in attendance to lead the conversations. All are welcome to join for a great day of conversations about solutions on how to build the best classrooms, schools and communities for the future.

While the edcamps are free to attend, organizers of each would like preregistration. Click on the logos included in this post to go to the specific edcamp website. If you are not able to attend an edcamp in person, you can follow the conversation by reading tweets with hashtags like #edcampsgf, #edcampKC, #edcampSTL.

Ed Tech Campers, Are You Ready?

It’s right around the corner- edcampSTL takes place Saturday, February 11 at Maplewood Richmond Heights Middle School in St. Louis, Missouri.

Organizers Bob Dillon and Chris McGee are reporting that registration is at capacity and they are very excited to have such an enthusiastic group of educators on board for the first ever edcampSTL (also known as an unconference). They are hoping that the group is ready to share & discuss all things education! Bob and Chris are planning a post-lunch activity called “things you can’t do in school with kids in the building” – hmmm…. wonder what that entails?

If you aren’t able to make it in person, be sure to follow backchannel chats on Twitter with the hashtags #edcampSTL and #MOedtech. To learn more about edcampSTL, visit their wiki– it has all sorts of info, including discussion boards, sponsorship thank-yous, hotel room rates and much more. And don’t forget, the Midwest Education Technology Conference kicks off the following week- get all your ed tech PD in this February in St. Louis!

METC Inaugural Unconference in 2011

Unconferences usually aren’t about big-name speakers, but are more about letting everyone attending take part in the conference. Grab your lunch and come participate in a 20 minute sharing session during METC’s Inaugural Unconference. Unlike a traditional conference where conference planners determine what will be discussed, during an unconference, the participants make those decisions.

This experience brings informal conversations people usually have between sessions into the conference itself. Red Cloud Digital will be sponsoring live streaming and archiving of these sessions.

Check out the unconference starting at noon both Tuesday and Wednesday, in breakout rooms D1, D2, and D3. Sign up will be located outside the breakout rooms. Be sure to follow  us on Twitter using the #METC_CSD hashtag and #unMETC.
