Support Staff! You Are A STAR!The 22nd annual Support Staff  Academy Mini-Conference– Celebrating and Honoring Support Staff- is June 11, 2014 at Mehlville High School. We’re excited to have Scott Taylor keynote the mini-conference; he is an educational consultant and motivational speaker. He is the former principal of Crestwood Elementary School in Lindbergh Schools. Scott retired in last summer after 32 year career in education. He’ll address how support staff truly impacts the students they work with on a daily basis.

Other topics covered during the day include: communication, health and safety, leadership and office technology. Attendees will have an opportunity to network with one another as well as visit exhibitors like Books Are Fun, Office Essentials, PartyLite, Vantage Credit Union, plus others.

Organizing Your Computer: Electronic Data Management

Are you overwhelmed by the site of your computer desktop? Are you tired of wasting time searching for documents and files on your computer?  Do you worry about what you would do if your computer suddenly crashed?  Are you overwhelmed by the number of emails in your inbox? Laurie will lead the group in a discussion of how to tackle all of the clutter in your email inbox, on your physical and computer desktop, as well as in your paper and electronic files.  She will give you a step-by-step process to not only clear out the clutter, but how to keep it from coming back.  Laurie will provide tips on how to establish routines for keeping your computer organized and backed up.  There will be opportunities for hands-on practice.  If you have a work or personal laptop, please bring it so you can begin the organizational process right now!

Time Management: Steps to Optimizing Your Productivity

Do you feel like you have a never-ending “to do” list? Are you disappointed at the end of the day when you feel like you have gotten nothing done? Are you ready to take meaningful steps towards maximizing your time at work?  Laurie will provide practical information that you can implement at work right away! You will learn how to prioritize your “to do” list and how to create routines that increase your overall productivity. Laurie will work with you to determine when you are at your peak level of productivity during the work day, as well as provide tips on how to tackle the major pitfalls that are sabotaging your efforts towards making the most of the time you have a work. Please gather up any loose paperwork that is lying on your work surface and bring it to the seminar to be used for a hands-on activity.

What does it take to efficiently plan a successful event?

MEETINGS & EVENTS 101 takes place Friday, March 7, 2014 * through the Support Staff Academy offered by EducationPlus. This SSA session is 8:30- 11:30 am and costs $59 for members, $74 for non members.

Presenter Anne Churchill of AnnaBelle Events in Columbia, Missouri will discuss the basics of meeting planning, including how to implement your planning process effectively and efficiently. This session will be focused on the fundamentals of planning meetings and events. During the session the participants will learn the steps to confidently plan and execute a successful event. We will break down all of the elements of the planning process and take an in-depth look at the importance of goals, budget, timeline, planning tasks, and more. The information presented is intended to be general enough to apply to almost any event, regardless of size or type. After the session participants will have an understanding of the planning process and be able to take an event from idea to execution in a systematic and organized way.
