Web 2.0 for the Common Core​

Learn from Julie Smith (who describes EdTech Evangelization as her new passion) how to use Web 2.0 applications to help your students create curriculum-based podcasts, infographics, screencasts, cartoons, online posters, illustrated timelines and videos.  See how this type of creation on the part of students can help them meet Common Core State Standards. In addition, one graduate credit is available through Lindenwood University by taking this workshop. Requirements for graduate credit: attend class; develop a lesson plan that incorporates the technology learned; and write a reflection explaining how technology enhances your lesson plan.

Using Prezi to Create Zooming Presentations
June 1  12:30-3:30pm  $75 CSD member; $89 non-member
(No Credit) Did you know that Prezi is a web-based presentation application & storytelling tool that uses a single canvas instead of traditional slides? Text, videos and other objects are placed on the infinite canvas & grouped together. Learn how the canvas allows users to create non-linear presentations, where users can zoom in and out of a visual map. You’ll see how your Prezi can be developed in a browser window, and then downloaded so that no Internet connection is needed when sharing your presentation.

(1  Grad Credit Available) How can we meet the needs of today’s learner, use technology effectively and efficiently, and still maintain the personal connection that’s so important to any learning experience? You’ll learn about managing change, using authentic student engagement strategies, and communicating effectively with education stakeholders. Technology tools used will include, but are not limited to, Google Forms for data gathering and analyzing, learning management systems (like Moodle), social bookmarking, and wikis, blogs, podcasts, videoconferencing, plus social media.

Would you like to find other people to connect to besides those you see daily? Having a PLN (Personal Learning Network) allows you to learn and share with others around the world, 24/7. A PLN is a reciprocal network that you create based on your interests and needs. By developing your own PLN, you generate multiple opportunities to learn from, connect with, gather information and resources, then create and share with people like you. In this full day workshop for beginners, we will explain how to use an online community to develop your PLN and then share various tools that can help you do so. We will explore online learning communities such as Nings, Wikis, Moodle & LinkedIn; and social networks such as Google+, Facebook and Twitter. Become a digital learner through podcasts, YouTube, TeacherTube & SchoolTube. Set up an RSS feed to read your favorite blogs, news and other information in one place online. The tools shared can also be used in your classroom or professional development activities. Fasten your seat belts for this full day of learning about these free, timesaving, professional development resources.

help auditory learners & motivate reluctant learners with podcasting in the classroom

podcastCSD’s tele is equipped with computers that use both Windows and Macintosh operating systems. Pick any class, and you will have the option of working either in a PC or Mac environment.  In addition, we have reworked our classes in order to provide you with more ideas for classroom application using technology.  Our focus is on student outcomes and developing 21st Century skills. One upcoming class that may interest you is Empowering Students with Podcasting. It will next be November 4 & 5 from 4 to 7 o’clock.

Did you know that you don’t have to own an iPod or even a MP3 player to create and listen to your own podcasts? Learn in this two night class how to record digital audio broadcasts, edit them and upload them to the web. Teachers in any grade level can use this technology to create podcasts of their lectures or class discussions so that students can listen to them again for reinforcement, or, students who were absent can catch up on work missed. Participants will also create lessons for their students that require them to create their own radio broadcasts, performances, interviews and more. Learn how this using this tool in the classroom can help auditory learners and motivate reluctant learners. Walk away with your own original podcast! For those interested, one graduate credit is available. This class is $138 for CSD members, plus extra for the grad credit. Non members pay $214 plus extra for the grad credit.
