If your library is still just a place where students go to check out books and, on special occasions, hear a story, you may already be infected by a silent but deadly plague threatening the future of school libraries everywhere: Zombie Librarianship!
Join Jennifer LaGarde as she takes aim at the undead among us at the METC Library and Media Literacy Luncheon, identifying the characteristics that define zombie librarianship. She’ll share countless examples of how to use technology, harness the power of learning networks and employ authentic collaboration to be a zombie fighter: a school librarian who defies expectations by bringing the awesome every single day!
EducationPlus is also excited to have Gwyneth Jones, The Daring Librarian, as one of our keynotes! See even more Library & Media Literacy opportunities at METC here.
Teachers just like you are doing amazing things through distance learning, providing their students experiences that are far beyond what’s possible in the classroom.
The EducationPlus Distance Learning Academy will equip you with the knowledge and tools to make amazing experiences come to life for your students! St. Louis area teachers have connected their students to the rainforests of Borneo and to the underwater wonders of the Great Barrier Reef. Where will you take your students?
In the three day academy this summer, you’ll learn about e-learning, online projects and videoconferencing using tools like Polycom, Cisco, Skype, Google and LifeSize. You’ll also learn how to effectively use other collaborative technologies such as Google Docs, blogs and wikis. As you collaboratively work on projects over distance learning you’ll develop a Personal Learning Network that will be valuable in your teaching.

NEW! Save Time & Collaborate with Your Own PLN is scheduled for Monday, June 6th from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Cooperating School Districts. Are you overwhelmed? Do you feel isolated in your role as an educator? Having a PLN allows you to learn and share with other educators around the world so you don’t feel alone. A PLN is a reciprocal network that you create based on your interests and needs. Come to this class to find out just what a PLN is and why do you need one. By developing your own PLN, you create multiple opportunities to learn from, connect with, gather information and resources, create and share with professionals like you. In this class, we will explain how to develop a PLN and then share various tools that can help you. We plan to explore Twitter, social networks, and other collaborative applications including Ning, Skype, and social bookmarking sites to get you on your way. Class costs: $149 CSD for members; $189 for non-members. For an additional fee, one graduate credit is available to interested parties. Register by clicking here.
