The 25th Anniversary of the Challenger Disaster takes place January 28th. There are several events set at the Challenger Learning Center-St. Louis to mark the occasion. Here are some just for teachers:
Christa’s Lessons Videoconferences
• Participate in a free videoconference. The Challenger Learning Center-St. Louis will be offering free videoconference sessions all morning on January 28, 2011 at 8:30, 9:15, 10:00, 10:45 and 11:30 a.m. CST featuring Christa McAullife’s lessons- the ones she was going to teach from space in 1986. The Cooperating School Districts of Greater St. Louis will host these sessions. Click here to reserve your space. You can also download Christa’s lessons and do some of the activities yourself with students.
Where Were You? Cards & Videos
Have your students interview a relative or friend for the Where Were You? project. Cards can be posted at your school or sent to the Challenger Learning Center-St. Louis. Videos can be sent to email@example.com. See already posted videos on Flickr.
Encourage students to wear something blue (or if your students typically wear uniforms, suggest a $1 donation to wear something blue other than their uniforms) on January 28, 2011. Take a photo of your school’s support and e-mail it to the Challenger Learning Center.
Launch a Quarter Drive
In honor of 25 years, have your students collect quarters ($0.25). If you are interested in participating, we will provide your students with small banks to collect the quarters. Students can bring their banks to Challenger Learning Center-St. Louis on the day of their mission and receive a special “thank you” gift from us. Classes that collect at least $100 will also earn a class prize. All donations directly support the education programs at Challenger Learning Center-St. Louis.
