Educator PD: Understanding the Differences Between Emotional Disturbance and Social Maladjustment

Lynn Baer presents Emotional Disturbance versus Social Maladjustment over videoconference as part of New Link’s Healthy Kids | Healthy Classrooms series.

Teachers are often perplexed about the behaviors they see in their students and how to respond to them in an appropriate way.

This 1 hour presentation will review the differences between students with an Emotional Disturbance (ED) and those with Social Maladjustment. Definitions and characteristics of each category will be discussed. Disorders under the ED category (depression, bipolar, anxiety) will be reviewed as well as interventions for the classroom. These will be compared to the disorders and interventions falling under Social Maladjustment (Oppositional Defiant Disorder, Conduct Disorder). Treatment in the community will also be reviewed and compared. There will be time for questions!

This program takes place Tuesday, November 8, 2011. Sign up by October 31st with Rebecca Morrison. This interactive videoconference will last 1 hour; for New Links members, the fee is just $25! Non-members pay $85 per site. There is no limit to the number of participants per site. Teachers, school nurses, counselors, and administrators are encouraged to attend.
