Gateway Media Literacy Partnership (GMLP) encourages students who turn in outstanding media literacy analyses to submit their work for possible inclusion in the 2011 Academic Symposium, to be held on November 12, 2011. The symposium will be an integral part of GMLP’s annual Media Literacy Week (November 6-12 this year). The 2011 theme is “Media Literacy is the Message: The Legacy of Marshall McLuhan.”
The Academic Symposium is divided into two strands:
- The Academic Strand (9:00-10:15am) consists of presentations that analyze the media and media presentations, using the analytical tools of media literacy
- The Pedagogical Strand (10:30-11:45am) focus on issues related to the teaching of media literacy
Presenters will have fifteen minutes in which to present their papers, with five minutes to answer questions from the audience. The event will be held in a “smart classroom,” so you will be able to use your computer, CDs, tapes, and the Internet. This is a public event, so colleagues, friends and family are encouraged to attend. Submit two copies of your paper and a one hundred word abstract by June 1st.
