ISTE Announces 2011 Outstanding Leader Award Recipient: Missouri’s Monica Beglau

The International Society for Technology in Education  announced that Monica Beglau, Executive Director eMINTS National Center with the University of Missouri in Columbia, is the recipient of the 2011 Outstanding Leader Award.

ISTE is the premier membership association for educators and education leaders engaged in advancing excellence in learning and teaching through the innovative and effective use of technology in PK-12 and teacher education. Dr. Beglau will be honored and presented with her award at ISTE’s annual conference and exposition (ISTE 2011) in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, in June.

The Outstanding Teacher and Outstanding Leader awards recognize and honor individuals who have demonstrably improved education through the use of technology. Candidates are nominated by ISTE Affiliates, a network of more than 75 professional associations representing more than 100,000 educators worldwide. Nominations are reviewed by a team of eight education & technology professionals. Bijal Damani, a higher secondary teacher with The Galaxy Education System in Rajkot, Gujarat, India, won the 2011 Outstanding Teacher Award.

Dr. Beglau was nominated by ISTE Affiliate Cooperating School Districts of Greater St. Louis for “her vision, leadership, and ability to adapt and thrive in ever-changing conditions.” She “provides professional development that helps educators to integrate technology and effective instructional strategies in way that engage students.” Dr. Beglau was also cited by CSD for her strong vision for the eMINTS program as well as her dedication and ability to collaborate, ensuring continuous improvement and program success.

CSD was founded 83 years ago by a group of school superintendents who joined together to share ideas and resources. Today, CSD displays the power of collaboration by bringing districts together to network on education issues, save money for schools and to enhance classroom instruction through staff development training and programs, including integrating instructional technology into K-12 classrooms.

For nearly a decade, instructional technology professional development at CSD has been provided by the Virtual Learning Center. Last year, the Virtual Learning Center of CSD became an ISTE Affiliate. The CSDVLC ISTE Affiliate is proud to have nominated fellow Missouri educator Monica Beglau for this prestigious award and pleased she was selected to receive it. Congrats to Monica!
