Learning About Space over a Distance

Today Robert Powell from the Challenger Learning Center – St. Louis conducted several videoconferences from Cooperating School Districts with the Whiteriver Unified School District. WUSD is located on the White Mountain Apache Reservation in northeastern Arizona.

Robert spoke with the students about life aboard a shuttle in orbit- how astronauts eat, what they do on board, how they return to Earth after spending time in space- did you know the trip home takes only one hour and four minutes? Robert and the “crew” also conducted a fluid shift experiment- they held their right hands up in the air for one minute, then compared them with the left hand, that had remained down at their sides. They got to see how the body can change pretty quickly- something had happens in space.
